Job Title: Marine Forklift Operator
Job Type: Service, Full Time
Expected Hours: 40 hours per week
Schedule: 8-hour shift
Reports To: Mike M, Manager at MVYC
The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of forklift equipment in a marine environment, including loading and unloading boats and transporting materials at Mountain View Yacht Club. This role requires a strong understanding of safety regulations, proficiency in operating forklifts, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a Wiggins Marina Bull Boat Lift in accordance with company safety procedures and all relevant regulations.
- Load and unload boats, ensuring proper handling and securing of materials to prevent damage.
- Inspect forklifts before and after each shift to identify any mechanical issues and report them to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of loads moved, including type, quantity, and location.
- Properly store boats in designated areas, ensuring efficient space utilization.
- Comply with all safety regulations and company policies, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist in other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, which may include general yard help duties or assisting with other marina activities.
- Follow all instructions related to cargo handling, including proper securing techniques to prevent accidents and damage.
- Adhere to company policies regarding security & access control within dock area.
- May be required to work overtime or varying shifts, including weekends, depending on operational needs.
Qualifications:
- Valid forklift operator certification (preferred but not required)
- Proven experience as a forklift operator, preferably in a marine or port environment.
- Strong understanding of safe operating procedures for forklifts and other heavy equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication & customer service skills.
- Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and procedures.
- NH Boaters license (preferred but not required)
- Valid Driver’s license
- Strong diagnostic & troubleshooting skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Physical Demands:
- Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull heavy objects.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work at heights (depending on the specific equipment used).
Working Conditions: Outdoor environment, exposed to varying weather conditions. Potential exposure to dust, noise, and fumes. May involve working weekends and overtime.
