Job Description :
IT Operations Management : Oversee and manage the IT infrastructure within the distribution center, including servers, networks, hardware, and software systems. Ensure the continuous availability, security, and reliability of IT systems to support the distribution center's operations. Develop and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices to meet the operational needs of the distribution center. Supervise the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of IT equipment.
Agile Project Management : Lead IT development and operations projects using Agile methodologies, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and meet the distribution center's objectives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather project requirements and define deliverables. Facilitate Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, driving continuous improvement in project execution. Prioritize tasks, manage backlogs, and ensure the team achieves project milestones.
Data Warehouse Development : Work closely with stakeholders to define data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
ERP System Development and Management : Lead the development, customization, and management of the ERP system to support the distribution center's operational processes. Collaborate with internal teams to gather business requirements and ensure the ERP system aligns with operational needs. Oversee the integration of the ERP system with other IT systems, ensuring data consistency and operational efficiency. Monitor and optimize ERP system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements as necessary. Ensure that the ERP system complies with industry standards and regulations.
Warehouse Management System (WMS) Development and Maintenance : Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the WMS to optimize warehouse operations, including inventory management, order processing, and shipping. Collaborate with warehouse operations teams to ensure the WMS meets operational requirements. Oversee the integration of the WMS with ERP and other systems to ensure seamless data flow and operational efficiency. Monitor WMS performance, resolve issues, and implement system enhancements to improve functionality and user experience. Stay current with the latest WMS technologies and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
Team Leadership : Lead, mentor, and manage a team of IT professionals, including software developers, system engineers, batch job operators, ERP specialists, and WMS developers. Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment focused on continuous improvement and high performance. Provide training and development opportunities to ensure the team remains up-to-date with the latest technologies and methodologies.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management : Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure timely delivery and support of IT products and services. Serve as the primary point of contact for IT-related issues within the distribution center, working closely with other departments to address needs. Negotiate contracts and service level agreements (SLAs) with vendors to ensure they meet organizational goals and budget constraints.
Continuous Improvement : Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of current IT systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements as needed. Stay informed about the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the CDC's IT capabilities. Promote the adoption of new technologies and methodologies that support the distribution center's growth and efficiency.
Additional Duties : Monitors the implementation of approved best practices and information technology policies that maximize efficiency and productivity. Provides leadership for the planning, design, implementation, budgeting, and management of information technology resources. Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
A Master’s degree a plus.
Experience :
7 years of IT management experience, ideally within a distribution center, warehouse, or logistics environment.
Proven experience in Agile project management.
Familiarity with data warehouse development, including data modeling, ETL processes, and database management.
Extensive experience in ERP system development, customization, and management.
Experience in WMS development, implementation, and maintenance.
Experience with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
Experience with WMS platforms such as Manhattan, Blue Yonder, or Infor.
Licenses and Certifications :
Agile certification (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster, PMI-ACP) is highly desirable.
Relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network , CCNA, CISSP) are a plus.
WMS certifications (e.g., Manhattan Certified Associate, Infor WMS) are a plus.
Data warehouse or database certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified : Azure Data Engineer, AWS Certified Data Analytics) are a plus.
Technical Skills or Knowledge :
In-depth knowledge of IT systems, including hardware, software, networking, and security protocols.
Proficiency in Agile tools such as JIRA or similar platforms.
Strong understanding of ERP and WMS architectures and best practices.
Familiarity with the PICK programming language. Proficiency with Microsoft .NET.

Working Conditions
This position is a hybrid position located at the Distribution Center's Langley facility and may require occasional travel to the main UChicago Press office.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with, sometimes, shifting priorities.
CDC IT personnel sometimes need to work after hours or weekends during critical system updates or outages.
