Description
Purpose:
The General Education Paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher and school principal by providing supports to groups of students at a school site in order to increase student achievement.
Essential Job Functions
- Plans and teaches small group instruction in the classroom under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Collaborates with teacher in weekly lesson planning.
- Assists teacher with differentiating instruction.
- Assists teachers with the management of student behavior.
- Assists students in following classroom routines, working on-task, and completing assignments with increasing independence.
- Clarifies, rephrases and repeats instructions for students as needed.
- Collaborates with school staff in behavioral support.
- Assists in the development of individual, classroom-wide and/or school-wide positive behavioral supports to students.
- Assists students with conflict resolution.
- Provides structured supervision on the yard during recess, lunch, before school, and after school.

Education
- AA Degree or Bachelor’s degree, OR at least 48 successfully earned semester units of college course work from an accredited college/university (must include 9 hours of coursework in Reading/Writing and 6 in Math).
Certifications
- Must pass criminal background check
- Must provide proof negative TB test results
- Must complete CPR/First Aide certification and Child Abuse training within 30 days of employment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
- Possession of patience, flexibility and the ability to work well as a collaborative team member.
- Physical ability to bend over, squat, stand and sit for periods of time, and move with some speed.
- Reliable transportation to work.
- Prior experience working with children in an educational or other structured setting.
- Skills needed to model appropriate behaviors to students.
- Ability to remain calm during periods of stress.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage time.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff.
- Ability to accept constructive criticism and direction from supervisors.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
- Mobility to traverse all areas of work sites.
Compensation: $20.00 - $30.25
