Job Title: Controller

POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller for Isanti, LLC, a Tribal Corporation owned by the Santee Sioux Nation, is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role involves managing accounting functions, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Controller will work closely with the CFO to support the financial health and strategic goals of Isanti, LLC. The controller will always show ethical and professional behavior while promoting the company vision, mission, and core values.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and ensure the accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
Accounting Operations:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure timely accurate processing of financial transactions.
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
- Support the CFO in financial planning and analysis activities.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Develop and implement internal control policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and tribal financial regulations and policies and policies.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits.
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct Financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial performance and trends.
- Assist in evaluating business opportunities and financial risks.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Provide training and development opportunities for the finance team.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall corporate objectives and initiatives.
- Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance
- Maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including tribal members, government agencies, financial institutions, and external auditors
- Communicates financial performance and strategies to the CFO and other stakeholders.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in a tribal or non-profit organization is highly desirable.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPA or CMA Certification Preferred
Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

- Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- Knowledge of tribal financial regulations and compliance requirements
