We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Crisis Therapist with a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling and the corresponding State of Michigan licensure. This position is responsible for providing crisis intervention and intensive case management services to adults (18 ) with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders. The primary focus will be on individuals at risk for psychiatric hospitalization, those already admitted to inpatient psychiatric facilities, or those who have a high risk for readmission or frequent use of emergency psychiatric services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments to identify service needs and preferences for individuals at risk of psychiatric admission.
- Provide crisis intervention and safety planning to de-escalate immediate crises and facilitate engagement in treatment and recovery services.
- Ensure timely access to services and support, coordinating with treatment teams and community organizations to meet clients' needs.
- Assist clients in obtaining eligibility for entitlements, community resources, and other supports.
- Offer transportation assistance as necessary, ensuring clients can access needed services.
- Develop Individualized Plans of Service (IPOS) with clients and their treatment teams, based on comprehensive assessments.
- Provide both in-person and telehealth services to clients, according to their preferences and treatment needs.
- Participate in community outreach to engage and reengage clients with necessary services.
- Provide crisis intervention and connect clients with the appropriate level of care, ensuring the least restrictive setting possible.
- Collaborate with local providers and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Document all service activities in a timely manner, ensuring that all required reports and case notes are accurate and up to date.
- Adhere to professional ethics, policies, and procedures, and maintain appropriate state licensure and certifications.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Schedule:
- Regular working hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM; Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
- Crisis screening services available 24 hours a day, including holidays and weekends.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling required.
- Licensure: Must hold or be eligible to obtain Michigan licensure (LLMSW, LLPC, TLLP, LMSW, LPC, or LLP) within a 60-day training period from hire. Failure to obtain licensure within the training period will disqualify the employee from performing job functions.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience (including fieldwork or internship) working with adults diagnosed with serious mental illness or substance use disorders required.
- Certifications: Candidates must obtain Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and Substance Abuse Treatment Specialist (SATS) credentials within 120 days of hire.
- CAADC: Must possess or be actively working toward a CAADC certification within 6 weeks of hire. If not already certified, candidates must submit a Development Plan to MCBAP within 30 days of hire.
- Driving Requirements: A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required. Candidates must obtain a Michigan Chauffeur License within 30 days of employment.
- Skills: Ability to engage with clients, provide trauma-informed care, handle crisis situations effectively, and navigate community services and support systems.
- Technology: Proficiency in using technology for service delivery (telehealth, documentation, etc.).
- Cultural Competency: Ability to work with a diverse population and demonstrate sensitivity to the unique needs of adults with mental health and/or substance use disorders.

Additional Information:
- Must be available for on-call crisis intervention services during scheduled hours and share on-call responsibilities during business hours.
- Crisis Therapists must be available to respond immediately during scheduled on-call hours, with flexibility to assist in after-hours coverage as needed.
