Isidore Newman School seeks a talented and dynamic early elementary educator for the 2025-2026 academic year. The successful applicant will possess excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate strong instructional and classroom management skills; have an understanding of the Math in Focus and Science of Reading curriculum; be technologically savvy and computer literate; have an abiding interest in helping students to experience academic and social growth; be successful in working with teams; be willing to contribute to school activities outside of the assigned classroom; possess strong understanding of the developmental level of the students they teach; and genuinely love to work with children and educators at the elementary level.
The most important qualifications include:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in elementary education or a related field
- Substantial teaching experience as an elementary grade educator
- Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the early childhood/primary level
- Cultural competency demonstrating respect for diversity of identities and experiences and an orientation toward equity and inclusion
- Professional orientation towards collaboration and innovation
- A reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
- Enthusiasm for teaching children
- A positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to engage, motivate and develop student learning
Significant responsibilities include:
- Plan and execute lessons which meet the differentiated needs of our students including whole group, small group and individual instruction, and fulfill the skills and content of the grade level.
- Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy.
- Facilitate the educational and social development of the students.
- Create an environment of respect and rapport that is safe and conducive to learning.
- Use instructional time effectively.
- Collaborate positively with the grade level colleagues as well as other lower school faculty around teaching and learning and have a growth mindset.
- Assess the students in a variety of ways, both formal and informal, and use assessment to guide instruction for student growth, development, and learning. Complete report cards.
- Continue to grow professionally by working with instructional coaches and administration, accepting feedback throughout the evaluation process, attending in-service and professional development/training, in and outside of the school, reading professionally, and actively participating in faculty meetings.
- Communicate openly and effectively with parents including but not limited to Parents Nights, Parent Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Conversations.
- Participate in field trips and special traditions and activities of the grade level.
- Maintain student records, display student work, maintain a neat and organized environment for learning.
- Model appropriate presence daily and ensure that students adhere to Lower School behavioral expectations.
- Complete Lower School duties and responsibilities as assigned.
