Job Title : SPED Teacher Lead

Report to : Head of School

Shift type : Full time

Contract Term : 12 months

Location : The Islamic School of Irving

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations and school laws and policies related to special education services;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Considerable knowledge of online student information systems (for example EASI);
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to plan and deliver professional development to adults;
  • Ability to analyze student and program data to support instruction;
  • Ability to work with adults in a consultative format to address student needs;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in special education or directly related field; masters preferred
  • Three years of experience teaching special education or related area;
  • Experience working with students who primarily have autism spectrum disorder and low incidence disabilities.
  • CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

    Hold or be eligible for a Texas Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area (not including Academically or Intellectually Gifted);

    SPED TEACHER LEAD :

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provides support to teachers serving students with low incidence disabilities in Extended Content classrooms and students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Standard Course of Study classrooms through school visits, observations, model-teaching, and hands-on involvement with students in the classroom. Provides follow-up written recommendations and strategies and / or materials and resources to teachers.
  • Consults with teachers and students in the set up and implementation of programs and clubs relating to social skills.
  • Compiles data, writes reports, and makes recommendations regarding student observational data.
  • Collaborates with teachers in developing Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Functional Behavior Assessments / Behavior Intervention Plans; assists in implementing goals and strategies documented on the plans, and in developing and interpreting data collection forms.
  • Assists with educational planning for specific students through communication with teachers, appropriate senior administrators, students and parents, attending IEP meetings, and through consultation with external agencies as needed.
  • Assists with educational planning for transition upon completion of high school through consultation with teachers and external agencies in developing Transition Plans, assisting in locating / setting up job sites in the community and attending IEP / Transition meetings.
  • Provides Texas Intervention training to teachers and staff in regional program classrooms.
  • Provides educational and instructional resource materials for new classroom teachers as needed relating to special education services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS : PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers; as well as equipment for children with special needs.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to ten pounds.
  • Due to the amount of time spent standing and / or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Must be able to work in an office and school environment and come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.
