What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Plans Examiner/Inspector position at Islamorada, Village of Islands?
Reviews construction plans and drawings for compliance with technical codes and inspects new and existing buildings and structures to enforce conformance to adopted laws, codes and ordinances, approved plans, specifications, and standards by performing the following duties. Position requires use of Village vehicle in performance of duties.

- Inspects residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings during and after construction to ensure that components meet provisions of the technical codes, zoning ordinances, safety laws and approved plans, specifications, and standards.
- Performs inspections on residential, commercial, industrial and other structures during and after construction to ensure that components such as foundations, framing, life safety, wind resistive and exiting issues meet provisions of all adopted technical and life safety codes and ordinance.
- Observes conditions and issues notices for corrections to persons responsible for conformance.
- Researches and obtains evidence and prepares reports concerning violations which have not been corrected.
- Interprets requirements and recommends compliance procedures to contractors, craft workers, and owners.
- Maintains inspection records and prepares reports for use by administrative or judicial authorities.
- Conducts surveys of existing buildings to determine lack of prescribed maintenance, housing violations, or hazardous conditions.
- Reviews permit applications and plans for compliance to codes for issuance of building permits.
- Calculates and assess permit fees.
- Provides, when necessary, flood insurance rate map information to the public.
- Other duties may be assigned, expanded, or otherwise changed at the discretion of the Building Official.
Building Inspector and Building Plans Examiner license from the State of Florida, with Residential Inspector license preferred. Five (5) years’ experience in a construction or inspection related field may be substituted for licensure. Must maintain required licenses pursuant to F.S. 468.628(7).

The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.
Salary : $72,000 - $90,000
