0-1 Yrs – $18.00
2-4 Yrs – $19.00
5 Yrs – $20.00

This is the second level of specialized work in the enforcement of regulations and the protection of life at a Village-owned swimming pool.  Work involves responsibility for maintaining orderly behavior on the part of swimmers and public at IFP pool, protecting swimmers from injury or loss of life by drowning, and for rescuing those who might be in distress. Position also assists in ensuring proper water quality, facility cleanliness and maintenance. Work is performed on an assigned shift, includes weekends, holidays and evenings, which may vary.  Duties include assisting in maintaining the pool and related routine activities connected with pool operations.  Work is performed in accordance with established procedures.

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services if needed.
  • Always presents professional appearance and attitude and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and consistent enforcement of rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic facility.
  • Conducts safety orientations, administer swim tests and fits life jackets.
  • Maintains and cleans pool deck areas, brushes pool surface areas and clean tiles, pool equipment and components such as pool gutters, ladders, railings, slide, and diving boards. 
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility. Includes sanitizing of restrooms and locker room, trash pickup and removal, sweeping and mopping of areas.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Conducts chemical tests for pool water quality and monitors water temperatures.
  • Maintains daily maintenance and pool chemical logs.
  • Uses various power tools and equipment in conjunction with job assignment to maintain the facility.
  • Prepares and maintains necessary reports related to injury/incidents; reports unsafe conditions or safety issues to supervisor(s) in a timely fashion.  
  • Assists with pool equipment and operational set up/break down for recreational programs, special events and swim meets. 
  • Assists with placement and removal of pool blankets.
  • Participates in in-service training programs to maintain required skills and certifications.
  • In absence of the head lifeguard and/or senior lifeguard supervision of subordinate staff may be required.
  • Perform related functions as required and all other duties as assigned

American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR & AED for Professional Rescuer Certificates Required. Scuba certification preferred. Valid Florida Driver’s License. 

 

Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of life saving and first aid methods and techniques as applied to accidents in the water and surrounding areas.

 

Must have knowledge of swimming pool equipment and its uses. Various hand tools used in the maintenance of swimming pool equipment; pool filtration equipment; pool testing equipment; rescue board; rescue equipment; flotation devices; telephone.

 

Physical Requirement:

The Physical demands described here are representative of those that must meet by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must pass a standard Lifeguarding performance Test. 

 

Position requires the performance of multiple complex tasks simultaneously. Requires long range planning with consideration to all influencing factors. Requires complex multi-tasking capabilities. 

 

Work Environment:

The environment characteristics describe here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While Performing the duties of this Job the employee works in an outdoor facility and is exposed to sun, wet and/ or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. May have to sit and Guard for long periods of time and will be exposed to chemicals.
