What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Planner position at Islamorada, Village of Islands?
- Receives, processes, reviews and monitors development applications, including but not limited to variances, use permits, site plan approval, text amendments, Comprehensive Plan amendments and plat approvals, from acceptance to issuance of final permit.
- Interprets, explains and enforces provisions of Village Codes, Comprehensive Plan, Florida Statutes, applicable laws and regulations, and other policies and standards to potential applicants and the public.
- Prepares zoning and use determination letters, letters of current site conditions and pre-application conference summary letters.
- Answers questions and provides information and assistance to the public in person, on the telephone and in writing regarding Village governmental ordinances and requirements.
- Reviews building permit and construction plans applications for conformity to the Land Development Regulations and Comprehensive Plan.
- Conducts research studies and prepares reports and recommendations regarding land use, zoning, urban design, population trends, transportation, housing, air quality, redevelopment, emergency response, and other community service needs.
- Uses computers and software programs for various technical planning projects and studies, such as Civic Plus, City View and ArcGIS.
- Prepares a variety of written communications, including analytical reports and correspondence.
- Researches and analyzes draft ordinances pertaining to planning, zoning, or environmental resource issues.
- Assists in the development of long-range plans for the Village and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan.
- Makes oral and graphic presentations or prepares materials for presentation to Village Council, Local Planning Agency, and community groups.
- Conducts fieldwork and site inspections for permitting and compliance with development orders.
- Responsible for and manages multiple complex projects.
- Assists the Director in the compilation of data, through computer searches and fieldwork.
- Provides intergovernmental coordination with Federal, State, County and regional governmental entities/agencies, such as Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Department of Commerce (DOC) Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), South Florida Water Management District and Monroe County.
- Attends external agency meetings on behalf of the Planning Department, as required.
- May be assigned to coordinate the planning activities for specific program(s).
- Serve as a liaison to Achievable Housing Citizens Advisory Committee and/or Historic Preservation Commission
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or other closely related field; supplemented by seven (7) years’ experience that includes urban planning, site plan review, and community development preferably in a municipal environment; Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture Urban Design or other closely related field; supplemented by two (2) years’ experience that includes urban planning, site plan review, and community development, preferably in a municipality environment.
Salary : $65,000 - $90,000
