This is a full-time position sworn (Commissioned) position within the Island County Sheriff's Office and requires a Civil Service Examination. Under general supervision, the entry level patrol deputy performs general duty police work with a shift or unit of the Sheriff's Office involving a wide range of duties performed to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, and preserve order within the community.

This is a Continuous Examination process. Pre-employment written and physical ability testing is offered continuously through Public Safety Testing.
PLEASE NOTE: You MUST successfully complete both the physical ability test (PAT) and the written examination offered by Public Safety Testing, submit a Personal History Statement questionnaire, and complete an Island County Application for Employment before your application will be deemed complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered and you will not be contacted.

CIVIL SERVICE SELECTION PROCESS: Vacancies are filled by the Civil Service "rule of five" with the top five eligibles forwarded to the appointing authority (Sheriff) for interview and background investigation, as vacancies occur. Applicants given a conditional offer of employment are subject to further processes including polygraph examination, psychological examination, medical examination and background investigation. Applicants must pass a Civil Service examination; AND pre-employment examinations including, but not limited to, a complete background investigation, fingerprinting, criminal record check, polygraph examination, a medical examination and a psychological evaluation.
All appointments are subject to successful completion of a one year probationary period as set forth in the Civil Service Rules for Island County Sheriff's Department Section 11.02 or its successor.
