Responsibilities
- Manage the referral process for patients, including scheduling appointments with specialists and ensuring all necessary documentation is provided.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize ICD-9 coding to ensure proper classification of diagnoses and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies regarding referral status and requirements.
- Assist in the coordination of managed care services to ensure continuity of care for patients.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to streamline referral processes and improve patient experience.
- Stay informed about changes in medical coding practices and insurance policies that may affect referrals.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office or dental office setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9 coding, and medical records management.
- Familiarity with managed care principles and processes.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
