SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Safety/Security/Emergency Management Lead (SSEML), the Safety Specialist (SS) position provides general to complex level support in the design, planning and execution of safety, security, and emergency response systems for IES. Incumbent is expected to have proficient knowledge of federal and state safety, health and environmental compliance regulations and is responsible for assembling written updates to SSEM guidelines, policies, programs and initiatives that support the safety and security of IES personnel, assets and operations.
Desired competencies include: accuracy, attention to detail, proficiency in managing relationships and information as it relates to safety, security and emergency management activities. The ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment. This position will also manage the company’s emergency response systems, focusing on fire, rope rescue, and medical at the first responder level. Prior relevant experience in the energy or similar industries is strongly preferred. Prior experience in public speaking and classroom safety training is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
1. Five or more years of progressive responsibility and experience in firefighting and confined space rescue, including high and low angle, patient packaging, and extrication.
2. Proven experience understanding and applying safety policies and processes, preferably within an industrial environment.
3. Proven experience in multi-tasking of work projects.
4. Knowledge of OSHA standards and Safe Work Practices
5. Experience in developing, delivering, and supporting training programs
6. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in relevant field preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Emergency Management
- Manages the emergency response systems as it applies to fire, confined space rescue, and medical responses. This includes development, implementation, training, assessment, and continuous improvement of the programs, policies, equipment, and volunteer personnel.
- Collaborates with Par Hawaii to maintain a unified response from the joint emergency response brigade.
- Builds relationships with municipal fire departments.
- Supports the SSEML with spill drill coordination.
- Supports the SSEML with driving the safety culture to align with the four B’s – Believe, Behave, Belong, Become, and ultimately, towards an incident-free workplace.
- Support the safety management systems such as safe work practices, training, assessments, and continuous improvement processes. Additional processes that are supported include management of change, process hazards reviews, incident investigations.
- Manages radio communication system, gas detection equipment, and safety data sheet database.
- Assists the Lead with industrial hygiene monitoring.
- Works with the SSEML to ensure compliance with the Maritime Transportation Security Act requirements.
- Assists with supporting the Par Hawaii led security team at the Kapolei Terminal.
