What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meat Cutter/Butcher position at Island Market IGA?
As a Meat Cutter you won’t just cut meat, you’ll make important decisions about the quality, packaging, and display of our meat items for our customers and their families. The Meat Cutter position will be on the front-lines of customer service, where your smile can make the difference between a good shopping experience and a great one.
What you will do:
- Provide excellent, professional customer service.
- Cuts and prepares all varieties and cuts of meat while operating tools safely.
- Sells products by providing customers with information needed to make product-related decisions.
- Helps to verify and unload meat deliveries from trucks.
- Maintains, fills, and rotates product in meat cases.
- Moves meat from coolers to cutting area and returns cut meat to coolers.
- Display and rotate products according to department standards.
- Maintain proper signage, pricing, and labeling.
- Demonstrate good organizational skills.
- Ensure that department sanitation, cleanliness, and safety standards are met.
- Assist meat department coordinator and meat department staff as needed.
- May place orders as directed.
- Handling equipment including hand wrapping station, automatic wrapping station, pricing, and labeling scales.

- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Experience with inventory maintenance, and shrink control.
- Ability to maintain an efficient operation, troubleshoot and report any malfunctions of equipment.
- Maintain sanitation standards throughout the work area.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including opening, closing, and weekend shifts.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend company documents.
- Assist with meeting the budget goals of the department.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Standing/walking up to 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures below 32-degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
