Key responsibilities of a heavy-duty mechanic service advisor:

  • Customer interaction:

Greet customers upon arrival, listen to their concerns about their truck, and gather detailed information about vehicle symptoms and service history.

  • Vehicle inspection:

Conduct basic visual inspections of the truck to identify potential problems and confirm customer concerns.

  • Estimate creation:

Generate accurate repair estimates, including parts and labor costs, based on the vehicle inspection and customer needs.

  • Repair order creation:

Prepare detailed repair orders for the mechanics, outlining the necessary work, parts required, and estimated completion time.

  • Communication with mechanics:

Clearly communicate repair details to the technicians, ensuring they understand the required work and any specific customer instructions.

  • Progress updates:

Keep customers informed about the status of their truck repairs throughout the process.

  • Parts ordering:

Order necessary parts for repairs, coordinating with the parts department to ensure timely availability.

  • Customer follow-up:

  • Maintenance recommendations:

Required skills and knowledge:

  • Technical knowledge:

Understanding of heavy-duty truck systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and chassis components.

  • Customer service skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with customers and handle inquiries effectively.

  • Salesmanship:

Ability to explain repair needs clearly and recommend additional services when appropriate.
