JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Child Life Specialist (CLS) plays a crucial role in supporting the child and family through focusing on the psychosocial development of children, providing emotional support and developmentally appropriate information, to increase understanding to improve ability to cope with medical procedures, diagnoses, pain management and grief. The child life specialist also addresses the needs of siblings or other children affected by a patient’s illness/diagnosis. The Child Life Specialist will utilize play and self-expressive activities as primary resources to minimize the stress and anxiety patients and families may face during a hospice healthcare experience. The CLS may be expected to learn and assist adult patients in other service lines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote positive coping for patients and families during healthcare experiences by providing support, education, and creative interventions to help children and families navigate healthcare challenges with resilience and emotional regulation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and child life peers to foster teamwork and promote exceptional patient care.
- Apply assessment skills to gain a comprehensive understanding of patient and family coping.
- Incorporate a variety of interventions to include play, self-expression, and socialization to reduce stress and anxiety for patients and families while providing opportunities to promote mastery and control.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a child life internship by first date of employment and or professional child life certification required through the Child Life Professional Certification Examination (CCLS)
- Maintain child life certification by attending professional development webinars, in services, and conferences.
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Psychology, or a related field focused on child development.
- Minimum of one year of work experience in accredited healthcare organization, hospice or home care preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- Demonstrate core competence with all child life skills.

The salary range reflects the anticipated base pay range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors within this pay range.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
