What are the responsibilities and job description for the Refuse & Recycling Center Attendant position at Isle of Wight County?
The Refuse & Recycling Center Attendant performs duties related to the operation of assigned Refuse & Recycling Center, and provides assistance to citizens in disposing of household refuse. Additionally, the incumbent also performs maintenance service of convenience centers.
- Assists citizens at the Refuse & Recycling Center;
- Cleans centers, collects refuse placed on ground, sweeps area, and picks up litter;
- Monitors citizen compliance with regard to items being disposed before disposal;
- Performs light to medium maintenance duties;
- Performs work safely in accordance with departmental procedures, and reports unsafe work condition or problems to supervisor;
- Performs work in sometimes disagreeable conditions and requires the ability to work weekends and holidays;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Completes necessary forms required by the Solid Waste Division.
- Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and perform all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
The work is medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the use of fingers, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pushing, pulling, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.Education and Experience:
- Ability to read and write.
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- No prior experience required;
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
