Position Summary:
This multi-tasking role requires exceptional decision-making skills and accurate interpretation of process parameters. The selected individual will support the company's objectives by controlling products, procedures, and raw materials. Key responsibilities include receiving inspection, final inspection, first article inspection, validation testing, transactions in the ERP system, reviewing, and updating documents.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Awareness of safety for self and others, including reporting accidents, safe lifting, material handling techniques, and demonstrating understanding of material safety data sheets.
- Performing testing on raw materials and final products to ensure conformance to customer, internal, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Producing samples and/or test coupons for qualification and certification testing.
- Maintaining the equipment calibration system by performing actual calibration on calipers, micrometers, thermocouples, etc., and keeping current all related data.
- Performing receiving, in-process, and final inspection on both procured and manufactured materials.
- Assisting in completing material review board objectives by corrective action follow-up and carrying out discrepant material dispositions (internal complaints).
- Performing First Article Inspections.
- Performing internal audits per ISO 9001 and AS9100 as required.
- Performing SAP transactions as required.
Secondary Functions:
- Satisfying clean-room environment restrictions, employee handbook, policies, program, and procedures.
- Cooperating as a team member, able to work independently after receiving daily instruction.
- Keeping equipment and work-area clean and organized.
- Performing additional duties when designated by Quality Assurance Manager and CEO.
Job Scope:
The QA Technician performs duties under supervision from the Quality Manager, operates within specific and definite directions and instructions. Decisions are made within the prescribed operating guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Interpersonal Contacts:
Contacts are primarily internal with occasional outside contact responsible for equipment maintenance or calibration. The QA Technician communicates with all departments internally, mainly with Logistics, Sales, Purchasing, and Production.
Specific Job Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret processes, manufacturing specifications, operation of equipment, and safety procedures.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with co-workers and management personnel. Able to speak and hear instructions and emergency procedures.
- Ability to smell in the event of an emergency situation.
- Able to handle multiple tasks, define problems. Able to understand and follow instructions.
- Able to travel to workstations and use personal protective equipment without assistance.
- Understanding and experience with spreadsheets and basic word processing.
Education and/or Experience:
- Associate's Degree in a related major preferred.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.) required.
- ASQ membership/certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
Working Conditions:
Works on the manufacturing floor; exposed to chemicals, temperature variations, machinery, and minimal noise. Must wear personal protective gear when handling chemicals. Contact with other manufacturing and administrative personnel. Must be able to work overtime when needed. High awareness of safety issues.
