Job Details
Title - Data Center Technician II Location - Tacoma, WA (100% onsite) Duration: December 31, 2025 with the possibility of an extension
Shift - 10:30am - 7:00pm, Monday through Friday with occasional weekends as work demands.
On Call Rotation There is a mandatory on-call rotation for after-hours support approximately one week out of every 6-8 weeks.
Note - When on call must carry phone w/ them and return the call/answer phone w/in 15 mins) and has to be capable of driving to the Data Center located in Tacoma, WA if needed within a one hour timeframe after taking the call (if necessary).
This position provides tactical support for the physical Data Center, Server Room, and other infrastructure and assets. This Data Center Technician will help to ensure the uptime of the Data Center by utilizing their hardware knowledge, data center experience, and their monitoring skills. This position will also be expected to participate in the on-call rotation approximately one week out of every 6-8 weeks. Duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Install, maintain, and repair server hardware, or other equipment by racking, cabling, labeling equipment entering device data into Data Center Management application
- Follow established data center guidelines and instructions to perform daily job functions
- Monitor physical environments and systems within the Client Data Centers
- Respond to, resolve, and document issues impacting the physical infrastructure of the data center
- Maintain hardware inventory and maintenance logs
- Work under general supervision and reports to a supervisor or manager, though some ingenuity and flexibility are required
Other Duties May Include the Following:
- Respond to, resolve, and document issues impacting the physical infrastructure of the data center
- Monitor electrical, HVAC, and other critical support systems; follow appropriate response, troubleshooting, or escalation procedures
- Monitor critical systems such as servers, applications, and hardware; respond to issues in defined response time expectations.
- Understand system dependencies and apply critical thinking to resolution steps
- Install server operating systems per documented process
- Configure and troubleshoot hardware, storage, back-ups; implement recovery steps for data restore and retrieval
- Troubleshoot and upgrade hardware on existing servers; replace hard drives, power supplies, and RAM
- Monitor inventory for servers, components, and cables
- Document processes and procedures; maintain records for system operations, task lists, problems, and resolution updates
- Support release process via change management requests
- Manage outages and incidents per documented process
- Update both IT and Business teams appropriately and timely during outages per documented procedures
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to:
- Work overtime with little or no notice as needed
- Expected to work emergencies and on IT weekends
- Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed
- Know, understand, and follow teammate guidelines, employment policies, and department or company procedures
- Maintain consistent, regular, punctual attendance as scheduled is an essential responsibility of this position
Required Technical Skills and Expertise:
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
- 2-4 years of Data Center related experience
- OS and/or hardware certifications preferred
- Certified Associate
- Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI)
- Has a technical understanding of the Data Center and server architecture
- Willingness to travel to different data centers within the Tacoma/Seatle region as required
- Minimum of 2-4 years of data center experience required with a strong focus in the following:
- Demonstrated understanding of data centers, routers, and firewalls
- Demonstrated understanding of computers, hardware, and software
- Experience with ticketing systems (i.e. ServiceNow)
- Cabling infrastructure experience in a Data Center
- Power balancing within the rack experience etc.
- True knowledge of the fundamentals of the Data Center
- Good working Knowledge of Windows Server, Windows domain (high level view), Patching the servers to the Network other tasks
- Skilled in performing the following tasks:
- Cabling up the server
- Monitoring the Data Center
- Performing Tape Backup's
- Good capacity planning experience and working with tool sets
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
- Basic proficiency in Unix, Linux, Windows, Network or Database Administration preferred
- Ability and willingness to work after hours on an as needed basis
- Ability and willingness to participate in a rotational on-call for after-hours support
- Ability to left minimum of 20 pounds to a maximum of 40 pounds, able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, lifting, and use full range of body motions
- Ability to work on a step ladder for an extended period
- Capable of dealing with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgement
Preferred Skill sets:
A Certification for hardware is a plus
Some experience with a Data Center Infrastructure Manager (DCIM)
Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI)
BICSI Certifications for Network Cabling Design and Installation
Data Center Certified Associate Certification
