We are seeking an experienced Senior Avionics Design Engineer to design, develop, and validate high-reliability electronics for lunar spacecraft. You will work with cutting-edge technology, contributing across the full product lifecycle—from concept to flight. This role offers mentorship from experienced aerospace leaders and opportunities to support multiple missions, providing hands-on experience in avionics design, integration, and testing. \n- Design, develop, and test high-reliability avionics hardware for lunar spacecraft.
- Own hardware development from concept through fabrication, testing, and integration.
- Develop test plans and execute qualification campaigns to validate avionics performance.
- Define and evaluate avionics system requirements and drive requirement closure.
- Select and qualify components and subsystems for spacecraft applications.
- Work closely with software and integration teams to ensure seamless system operation.
- Generate supplier procurement specifications and manage vendor relationships.
- Collaborate with software, systems, and hardware engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of digital avionics with spacecraft subsystems
- Support manufacturing and quality assurance by developing processes and validation strategies.
- Assist in the development of hardware screening procedures for flight systems.
- Assist in technical decision making during trade discussions
- Troubleshoot and resolve design and integration challenges during spacecraft development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
- 7 years of experience in avionics design, development, and testing (10 years preferred)
- Experience in hardware/software integration and troubleshooting for avionics systems.
- Proven track record of leading design development from concept to flight.
- Hands-on experience developing and executing test campaigns to validate avionics component and system performance.
- Experience with PCB design and design-for-manufacturing (DFM), including circuit board design for RF or mixed-signal systems.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment for avionics development and flight testing.
- Ability to work with export-controlled technologies as required.
- Expertise in high-voltage systems, lithium-ion batteries, or power distribution optimization.
- Strong analytical skills for assessing test data and validating system performance.
- Knowledge of spacecraft integration best practices and design-for-integration principles.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NASA-STD-8739.4, NASA-HDBK-4001, SMC-S-010, & SMC-S-016.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, MATLAB) for automation and data analysis.
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling for electromechanical design.
- Familiarity with project management tools (Jira, Confluence, Atlassian) for engineering workflow tracking.
- Experience in a fast-paced startup or rapid development environment.
