HSE Director
Key Purpose
The HSE Director provides functional leadership in the development and implementation of the Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental culture and associated programs, in alignment with Group and NAM requirements and objectives. The successful candidate will implement programs for the sites across the area assigned and will ensure the performance of work has zero impact to the client’s operations. The HSE Director partners with, and supports, the account at all levels to ensure relevant ISS standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements are current and maintained.
Key Areas of Collaboration and Influence
- Support the Americas Operations
- Performance team and Regional Manager, Facilities, and matrix report into the Director of HSEQ – North America
- Communicate effectively with colleagues within the assigned area and across the company so that information is disseminated effectively and participate in project groups and meetings as required
- Collaborate with HSE team and promote ISO programs standardization
- Actively support the account/NAM HSE team as a subject matter expert (SME) for maters of health, safety, environmental compliance.
Ideal Candidate Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field ideal; equivalent work experience considered
- Certificates and/or licenses as required by local authority
- Industry recognized certification in safety and/or quality disciplines preferred
- Knowledge of US and Canadian regulatory landscape
- 10 years of experience delivering HSE programs and initiatives in large, retail, industrial, or manufacturing environments; Manufacturing Safety and Quality is ideal
- Affinity with / knowledge of large, service-driven, matrix organizations
- Ability to translate business objectives and strategies into an operational program
- Previous experience developing HSE requirements for all roles within an organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with team members and with customers at all levels of an organization
- High level of organization and ability to prioritize
- Ability to lead and work with cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, ISO 22000, ISO 9000 quality and safety management systems
- Certified ISO auditor
Key Accountabilities
- Monitor key metrics and KPIs to drive culture and operational excellence
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic solutions and continual improvement of HSE strategies, management system and programs
- Oversee HSEQ personnel. Provide recommendations on current employees and staffing levels.
- Manage, develop, and implement HSE programs and initiatives to meet regulatory requirements and HSE needs of the customer account
- Evaluate new and existing programs to assess suitability and the need for changes
- Monitor injury, illness, and incident related performance for trends or other indicators of improving or degrading incident performance and develop and implement strategic solutions that will improve performance result as required
- Communicate all findings, concerns, and deficiencies to responsible managers and account and customer stakeholders to effect timely and necessary corrections
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic solutions that will support management’s efforts to improve and maintain compliance as required
- Oversee HSE plans, playbooks, and procedures for the account, ensuring information is current, complete, and effectively implemented
- Oversee vendor/contractor relationship with ISS to ensure vendors are properly qualified to perform requested tasks
- Track and ensure the completion of required HSE training matrix
- Facilitate investigation of nonconformities and work with Facility Managers in the development of appropriate Corrective Action Preventative Actions (CAPAs)
- Perform internal audits of sites to ensure both client and ISS conformance
- Provide inspection readiness, as needed, for regulatory inspections
- Assist in identifying opportunities to reduce costs while enhancing quality of services for the account
- Promote safety consciousness among employees by providing accurate and informative data, conducting safety meetings, giving timely feedback, safety suggestions, and visibly supporting the safety program
- Act as a safety resource to staff and employees as an HSE subject matter expert
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to travel, 25%-40%
- Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Extended periods of walking on premises during site visits
- Must be able to work under pressure and time deadlines during peak periods
ISS offers full time employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, as well as a comprehensive leave program based on employment status. The annual salary range for this position is $150000 per year - $165000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills and may vary from the range listed above.
