Position: Biomedical Equipment Technician, Intern
JOB SUMMARY:
Interns will experience a simulated full time employment situation in a career as a BMET. Part of college education, 5 to 10 week internship. Shadowing BMET’s performing inspections, preventative maintenance and repairing of medical equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
A. Administrative
1. Observes/shadows equipment inspections using company-approved procedures, equipment, and documentation.
2. Capable of documenting technical data in AssetManager System.
B. Technical
*1. Operates basic test equipment, such as multimeters, ECG simulator, and electrical safety analyzers.
*2. Performs simple electronic component removal and replacement.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Basic knowledge of electricity and electronics. Demonstrates proper and effective use of test equipment, input simulators, and hand tools.
2. Course education on basic medical devices and human anatomy.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
1. Preferred majors:
Biomedical Equipment Technology and Electronics Engineering
2. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. to chest height unassisted and 60 lbs. assisted.
3. Must possess the necessary dexterity normally associated with electro-mechanical repair skills.
4. Must be willing and able to work with potentially harmful/irritating chemicals.
5. Must be able to read and write English and communicate effectively with hospital staff, vendors, manufacturers, and corporate staff.
