This position in is Mooresville, NC just north of Charlotte, NC and is on-site in person work.
IST Precision Inc. is a machine design and manufacturing company in North Carolina that was established in 2001. We focus on industrial automation equipment and have our own fabrication shop, machine design group, controls group, and panel shop.
We are seeking a full-time mechanical engineer with experience in machine design, build, and testing of mechanical/electrical equipment. The candidate will be responsible for working with our team in the design of 3D Solidworks solid models, working with manufacturing vendors, and running diagnostics and testing of machines assembled and built at our company.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
- 3-5 years of experience AFTER UNIVERSITY in engineering design, manufacturing processes, and/or R&D engineering with Solidworks CAD
- Programming experience is a plus
- Developing automation processes is considered a plus
- Hands-on experience diagnosing and problem solving mechanical systems
- Demonstrated analytical, experimental, and problem-solving skills
- Highly innovative, self-motivated, and able to conduct research with minimal supervision
- Flexibility and adaptability – Ability to manage multiple priorities and change as required
- Experience interacting with personnel in research and manufacturing environments
- Critical thinking and problem solving with strong attention to detail – Ability to question, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information from multiple sources to provide recommendations on path forward and drive business decision making
- Affinity for technology/Technical understanding – Easily grasps new technical concepts; Shows curiosity for technology
- Willing to go above and beyond
- Willing to work overtime during project deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in a design role in an industrial automation and/or machine building environment
- Demonstrated talent and track record in automation and/or machine design
- Ability to size and specify actuators, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripherals
- Broad knowledge of materials and fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.) and experience designing for manufacturability
- Familiarity with controls and software concepts (e.g., PLC, VB, HMIs)
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
Responsibilities
- Work as part of an engineering design team to develop machine designs, including robotics, end-of-arm tooling, conveyor systems, material handling, and concepting automation processes.
- Develop bill of materials for machine designs.
- Order OEM components for machines.
- Build machines in IST's facility.
- Draft engineering slide deck reports for IST management.
- Work with external suppliers, including finding and vetting suppliers.
- Have a solid mechanical design background, which is essential for understanding and reviewing machine designs.
