What are the responsibilities and job description for the Database & Linux Systems Admin position at iStaff?
🔧 Database & Linux Systems Administrator | Keep the Stack Running Smoothly
We're looking for a sharp, resourceful Database & Linux Systems Administrator who knows their way around MySQL replication like a pro and can keep a LAMP stack humming. This is a hybrid role (about 60% in-office) based in West Atlanta, supporting a high-uptime environment where infrastructure is mission-critical and scale is real.
If you're the kind of person who thrives in a lean, collaborative team—where you wear a few hats, juggle a few systems, and make a huge impact—read on.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Own the performance, optimization, and high availability of our MySQL/MariaDB environments
- Administer and tune Linux systems (Rocky/CentOS/RHEL), from kernel tweaks to server-level security
- Automate system configuration and deployment using tools like Puppet or Ansible
- Support a LAMP stack infrastructure across multiple environments, including VMs and physical servers
- Work closely with engineering and DevOps teams to ensure our infrastructure stays resilient and responsive
- Help scale systems handling petabytes of data (yes, really)
- Monitor and respond to events across logging, alerts, and uptime dashboards
- Pitch in on networking, security audits, and hardware troubleshooting when needed
You’ve Got:
- 5 years of hands-on Linux systems experience (RedHat-based distros preferred)
- Solid command of MySQL or MariaDB in production environments (not just SQL—actual database management)
- Expertise with replication, tuning, optimization, and high availability setups
- Experience working in or around LAMP stack environments
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation using Puppet, Ansible, or similar tools
- Understanding of virtualization (VMware) and networking fundamentals
- A proactive mindset and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic setting
Bonus Points For:
- AWS experience (IAM, EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, Lambda, API Gateway, Elasticsearch)
- Networking chops with Fortinet hardware (ACLs, VPNs, traffic monitoring)
- Exposure to security audits, penetration testing, or IDS systems
- Experience with Splunk or advanced monitoring dashboards using Grafana / Prometheus / Loki
- A MySQL DBA background who’s cool with jumping into some Linux admin tasks
Why You’ll Love It Here: You’ll be part of a team that helps keep a 24/7, high-availability product alive and thriving. The culture is collaborative and laid-back but serious about doing great work. Expect to be supported, challenged, and valued—with benefits and perks that reflect that.
If you're the kind of person who’s excited to dig into both database and systems work, and wants to do it in an environment where your skills really matter, let’s connect.
