Basic Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience:
  • Proven experience operating a press brake, specifically an Amada RG80 or similar machine.
  • 2 years of experience in a sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment, with a focus on press brake operation.
  • Familiarity with other sheet metal equipment, such as shears, punches, and laser cutters, can be an advantage.
  • Certification:
  • Forklift certification or experience moving heavy sheet metal parts can be a plus.
  • Certification in workplace safety programs is often preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Press Brake Operation:
  • In-depth knowledge of setting up and operating an Amada RG80 press brake.
  • Ability to create and adjust machine programs for precise bends, angles, and tolerances.
  • Experience with back gauge setup, die changes, and machine calibration.
  • Familiarity with multi-axis press brake controls.
  • Blueprint Reading:
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Understanding of bend allowances, tolerances, and other critical dimensions for bending metal sheets.
  • Material Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with various types of sheet metal (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, mild steel) and how each material reacts to different bending techniques.
  • Knowledge of different tooling setups for different materials and thicknesses.
  • Mathematical Skills:
  • Strong math skills for calculating bend allowances, part layouts, and measurements.
  • Proficiency in measuring and verifying parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and protractors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical Stamina:
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials (often 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable standing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods while operating the press brake.
  • Manual Dexterity:
  • Good hand-eye coordination for operating the press brake and handling sheet metal.
  • Safety:
  • Awareness of safety procedures and proper handling of press brakes, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.

  • Attention to Detail:
  • Precise work is essential in sheet metal fabrication, so attention to measurements, quality, and accuracy is critical.
  • Problem-solving Skills:
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adjust machine settings, tooling, and materials to resolve bending issues and ensure quality production.
  • Time Management:
  • Ability to meet production deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Teamwork:
  • Working closely with other operators, supervisors, and fabricators to ensure smooth workflow and production.
  • Adaptability:
  • Willingness to learn new techniques, programs, and equipment, and to adapt to changing production needs.

Additional Requirements (if applicable):

  • Tooling Knowledge:
  • Understanding of press brake tooling, including punch and die sets, radius tools, and specialty tools for different bending operations.
  • Machine Maintenance:
  • Basic knowledge of press brake maintenance, including inspecting tools, lubricating parts, and performing minor repairs to ensure the longevity of the machine.
  • Forklift/Crane Operation:
  • Experience using forklifts or overhead cranes to move large sheets of metal and finished parts is often beneficial.
  • Willingness to Learn New Technologies:
  • As manufacturing technology advances, willingness to stay up-to-date with new press brake systems, CNC programming, and automation can be advantageous.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
