SPD TECH
Provides sterilized surgical instruments, supplies and equipment to the operating rooms. Assist in the training of other personnel, utilizing principles of the standard precautions and utilizing principles of event-related sterility. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate patient care.
The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.
Responsibilities
- Promotes mission, vision and values of the Center.
- Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment; and assembles wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
- Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
- Sort mismatched sets of instruments, trays and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
- Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory; submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts and Center equipment.
- Adheres to guidelines for infection control and maintains a safe, clean and orderly Operating Room environment.
- Assists as available the operative team with turn over between cases.
- Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives and quality improvement, safety and environmental and infection control standards.
- Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs.
- Compliance with the attendance policy.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and Center related business.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and legibly write, communicate appropriately and effectively, understand and execute instructions as needed.
- Ability to function as a member of the surgical team.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

- Basic computer skills and knowledge
- Ability to move or lift patients and/or equipment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of accredited Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technologist program
- Certification as Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technologist.
- One (3) year of pervious hospital Sterile Processing experience
- BLS - Required
