JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for managing and supervising the engineering staff for the Commercial Vehicle Product Engineering Department. Reinforces the collaborative environment for decision agreements and ensures final implementation execution. Manages engineering assistance for Isuzu related companies and departments when needed.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

35% 1. Manages the CV engineering staff; assigns daily tasks and balances workload. Works with CV Engineers in developing their product knowledge and expertise. Supports growth of departmental skills and capabilities for the entire CV product engineering department.
20% 2. Works closely with other members of management to ensure program goals are being met.
20% 3. Leads design reviews with product design team members for solving problems. Oversees evaluation of technical contents and makes effective decisions considering a wide range of alternatives for solving problems, improving quality, reducing cost, and keeping schedules.
10% 4. Communicates effectively with ISZJ engineering, suppliers, production facilities, joint venture partners and other parties based on teamwork concepts.
5% 5. Remains knowledgeable of North American (NA) CV competitors vehicles for competitive engineering research. Reviews learnings for potential NA sales growth and new business opportunities.
5% 6. Consults with other Isuzu departments and companies, sharing technical documentation to support Isuzus collective activities and objectives.
5% 7. Considers new technologies and trends. Prepares or organizes various reports and researches findings. Shares with upper management in the U.S. and in Japan.
8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Direct reports: Supervisor, CV Engineering, and CV engineering staff
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
Bachelors degree in engineering
Minimum of seven years experience in automotive product design engineering or equivalent
Minimum five years management experience
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of the design process for automotive components should include:
- Engineering drawings and GD&T
- Vehicle performance & packaging
- FEA analysis
- DFMEA, FTA, QC, & tolerance stack analysis
- Threaded fasteners and bolt joints
- Automotive parts knowledge for material selection (metal, plastic, textile), production processes, test methods, regulations, and component/sub-system design development process
- Familiarity with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)/American Standard Test Method (ASTM)
- Working knowledge of CAD/CAM design systems; Siemens NX & TcAE or similar
- Familiarity with simulation software and common diagnostic equipment

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proficient PC skills in Windows applications/Microsoft Office and presentation applications

Ability to sketch, interpret drawings and 3D virtual designs
Investigative and research skills such as benchmarking, internet search techniques, etc.
Good verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to obtain and keep a commercial driving license and medical certificate
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of office files, reports or records, typically weighing 5 lbs. or less. Requires occasional light lifting (5-25 lbs.) and on rare occasions, heavy lifting (60 lbs.). Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Position requires 20 30% domestic and international travel, including overnight stays.
Pay scale for this position is between $116,680 and $148,766. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
