JOB SUMMARY
Pursues state of the art Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) to improve product Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) performance and structural durability while minimizing time and cost involved in developing new products. Provides engineering analysis from tests and simulations, and reports findings. Position will receive limited direction from manager and provide guidance to more junior staff. Must be able to use independent judgment extensively.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
20% Participates in the deployment of structural durability and NVH CAE processes within ITCA.
15% Develops and improves structural durability and NVH CAE capabilities, methodologies, processes, and tools.
15% Creates and analyzes flexible multi-body dynamic models of commercial vehicle and related system/subsystem/component level vibration and radiated noise analysis.
15% Conducts full vehicle, system, sub-system, and component level modal, NVH and durability analysis.
15% Conducts dynamic response and stress analysis on engine mounts, accessory drive components, intake/exhaust, prop-shafts, half-shaft support, oil pan, and other related components.
10% Works with local and global CAE and Test teams to resolve powertrain noise and/or durability issues quickly.
10% Provides project management for coordinating CAE structural and NVH activity between internal and external teams and testing groups to meet program timing. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to: Manager, CAE Structural & NVH
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
- Masters degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum five years experience in automotive research and development with a concentration in automotive engine development
- Direct coursework in internal combustion engines preferred
- Seminar/industrial training in specialty preferred
- Software experience in Multibody Dynamics, and FEA is an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE
- Advanced knowledge of automotive products
- Advanced knowledge of automotive mechanical/electrical systems
- Advanced knowledge of test procedures related to commercial trucks
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent PC skills in Windows applications
- Proficient in structural and NVH CAE tools for FEA and radiated noise analysis
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced skills in engine development as demonstrated by scholarly/industrial achievements
- Ability to organize/develop project goals and time schedules in area of vehicle expertise
- Must be able to obtain and keep a commercial driving license and medical certificate
- Advanced report writing and analytical skills
- Ability to lead others toward project goals
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
Employee must be able to perform occasional light lifting (5 - 25 lbs.) and rare heavy lifting (60 lbs.).
Must be able on rare occasions to bend, crawl, climb, crouch, kneel, and reach above shoulder level in the performance of job duties. Must be able to work in hot, cold, and high altitude extremes.
Position requires 10 - 15% travel including overnight and weekend stays.
