Position Summary
The Project Engineer provides critical support to the Project Manager and Superintendent, ensuring smooth execution of medium to large heavy civil projects. This role involves setting goals, organizing project workflows, resolving challenges, and maintaining accurate documentation to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review contracts and specifications in detail to ensure compliance and alignment with project goals.
- Assist in preparing and updating project schedules.
- Report quantities, project costs, and forecasts to ensure budget alignment.
- Obtain and manage pricing from subcontractors and vendors, including change orders.
- Coordinate equipment and material deliveries as required.
- Resolve project challenges and conflicts with subcontractors, suppliers, and the workforce.
- Assist with monthly billing, cash flow projections, and change order processing.
- Manage document control, including submittal schedules, contract documents, and project record drawings.
- Review and verify accuracy of daily reports in Heavy Job.
- Maintain technical submittal lists, NPDES permits, SWPPP, and project schedules.
- Ensure compliance with inspection requirements, survey staking, utility adjustments, testing, and other project-specific needs.
- Issue correspondence to subcontractors and vendors regarding changes to plans or specifications.
- Support project closeout processes, including documentation and final reporting.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the Project Manager.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Construction Engineering and Management (CEM).
- 3-5 years of experience in civil construction, combining office and field roles.
- Medium to large project experience ($10M ).
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Primavera 6.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teams and stakeholders.
- PE license is a plus.
- Familiarity with heavy civil projects, particularly in roadways and bridges.
