What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network Engineer position at IT Resources?
Key Responsibilities - Essential Functions:
- Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot local area network hardware and software (including routers, switches, cabling, firewalls, security appliances, wireless access points, circuits, and Internet service).
- Optimize network performance through regular monitoring and tuning; escalate issues to vendors when necessary.
- Deliver proactive network support, including daily review of device and security logs, traffic monitoring, intrusion protection systems, and data center environment monitoring.
- Administer network user accounts, user environments, directories, security, and connectivity.
- Create and enforce access standards and processes to ensure a secure network and monitor usage.
- Investigate, test, and upgrade software, install patches, hot-fixes, versioning, and virus definition updates.
- Prepare staff for network-related changes using references, training programs, and in-person support.
- Provide technical support and guidance for all departments and external agencies, including researching, evaluating, and recommending new technologies.
- Offer project management support for network/infrastructure projects.
- Document procedures to assist other staff in executing those procedures.
- Liaise with vendors and external support resources to research products, new technologies, and deploy new technologies.
- Stay informed about new and emerging network-based technologies to support long-term goals.
- Understand fire, disaster, and safety procedures and regulations as they pertain to the work area.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Required licenses and certifications
- Valid State of Florida Driver’s License (FDL) and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) — license will be screened prior to employment and may be screened annually thereafter.
- 1 of the following are required within one (1) year of employment: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional - Security (CCNP – Security) or other related certification approved by leadership and HR.
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert – Security (CCIE – Security), Training or Certification in Dell, EMC, Fortinet highly preferred.
