GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Our Play Yard Coaches are experts in providing guidance and counseling regarding our furry guests. They assist with conducting Free Greet & Treats, temperament evaluations, and managing daily playgroup lists based on the dogs' interactions.
The responsibilities of our Play Yard Coaches include creating incident reports, taking daily photos and videos for client report cards, and documenting important information about the dogs. They must know how to use toys in the play yard to offer mental stimulation and exercise for the dogs. Additionally, they are responsible for ensuring the play yard is clean and safe, which includes cleaning up any messes promptly and supervising the dogs at all times.
Our Coaches work directly with the dogs, providing training and coaching when a dog’s behavior requires it. We focus on positive reinforcement, as we know that dogs respond better to this methodology. Furthermore, our Coaches must remain attentive to each dog's health and well-being, promptly reporting any concerns to management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leading a pack of dogs and developing creative ways to keep them active and engaged throughout the day.
- Ability to monitor the health and well-being of dogs and provide prompt updates to management. Can conduct Snout-to-Tail evaluations.
- Capable of quickly learning about our dogs, including their demeanors and quirks
- It is essential to be comfortable with heavy and strenuous cleaning, including cleaning suites, play yards, turf, lifting heavy items, dishes, laundry, and related tasks, and understand its importance.
- The candidate must be comfortable being around dogs of all sizes. Dogs can be noisy, messy, and challenging to handle at times. Therefore, it's essential that the candidate can provide appropriate corrections to the dogs as needed without using any force. Additionally, the candidate must be able to stand, walk, move, and engage with the dogs for the entire shift.
- Responsible for evaluating dogs' behavior and determining their eligibility for Greet & Treats and Re-Evaluations. Accurately report why a dog passed or failed.
- Being energetic, outgoing, and upbeat, able to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
- It is important to have a basic understanding of Pet Emergency Response tactics and to be able to utilize them quickly and efficiently during an emergency.
- Ability to capture photos/videos of dogs and create Report Cards for every dog in our groups and for social media posts.
- Providing excellent customer service when needed.
- The ability to learn and adapt on the go and be willing to take on other positions or duties as the business needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
- Prior industry experience as a dog daycare coach – would be ideal
- Experience in cleaning/sanitizing a dog facility
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must not be allergic to dogs.
- Able to hear, learn, and understand auditory behaviors from dogs.
- Able to visually observe, interpret, and react appropriately to dog body language.
- Able to work in a loud environment. (earplugs provided)
- Able to work and handle dogs with various energy levels, behaviors, and ages.
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-energy level environment.
- Able to remain calm, under control, and organized.
- When necessary, actively participate in staff training exercises, learn hands-on, ask questions when something is unclear, and approach everything with a “can-do”, positive attitude.
- Able to utilize It’s A Dog’s Life-required technology, such as e-learning software, apps, and other applicable platforms.
- You will be expected to maintain and adhere to all our policies and procedures and attendance policy during a 90-day probationary period. If you cannot comply, you will be terminated without notice.
- Reliable transportation despite weather conditions. (we are open 365 days a year)
- Weekend and holiday availability is mandatory.
- Within 30 days: non-slip shoes are required.
- Within 90 days: Animal CPR/First Aid Certification is required to be completed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to lift and carry dog food and supplies. (estimated 50 lbs)
- Able to walk and/or stand for the entire designated shift.
- Able to walk and handle dogs ranging in size/weight. (10lbs – 150 lbs)
