Job Summary:
The Infant Teacher is responsible for providing a loving, developmentally appropriate, and nurturing environment where infants can grow, learn, and feel secure. This role requires patience, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of infant development. The Infant Teacher will ensure that feeding, diapering, sleeping, and playtime routines follow best practices and NYS OCFS regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Infant Care & Development
- Provide a warm, safe, and responsive environment for infants.
- Follow individual feeding and sleeping schedules, ensuring infants are fed every 2-3 hours and changed at least every 2 hours (or as needed).
- Engage in age-appropriate sensory activities, tummy time, singing, and interactive play to promote infant growth and development.
- Offer consistent comfort, emotional security, and nurturing interactions throughout the day.
✅ Health, Safety & Supervision
- Ensure constant supervision and adhere to strict infant safety guidelines (no blankets, proper sleep positions, no extended time in swings/bouncers).
- Follow NYS OCFS regulations for safe sleep, feeding, diapering, and hygiene practices.
- Maintain clean and sanitized cribs, toys, bottles, and feeding areas following all health and safety protocols.
- Observe infants closely for developmental milestones and any health concerns, communicating concerns to leadership and parents as needed.
✅ Communication & Relationship-Building
- Foster strong bonds with infants through responsive caregiving, consistent routines, and gentle interactions.
- Build positive relationships with parents, providing daily reports on feeding, sleeping, and development via the center’s communication app and in-person check-ins.
- Conduct parent conferences as needed to discuss infant development and progress.
✅ Team Collaboration & Compliance
- Work closely with other teachers to ensure smooth classroom transitions and maintain consistency.
- Assist in training and mentoring assistant teachers, floaters, and substitutes.
- Maintain accurate attendance, feeding, diapering, and nap logs.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development workshops.
- Ensure compliance with It Takes A Village policies, NYS OCFS regulations, and best practices for infant care.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with infants in a licensed childcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of infant development, responsive caregiving, and safe sleep practices.
- Ability to multitask, remain calm, and be patient in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically able to lift and carry infants, sit on the floor, and keep up with an active classroom.
Educational Requirements (per NYS OCFS regulations):
To qualify as an Infant Teacher, you must meet one of the following:
- Associate degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or other Office-recognized credential for the infant age group, plus one year of experience working with children.
- At least 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field, with a plan to complete a CDA or associate degree, plus two years of experience working with children.
Job Details & Benefits:
Pay: $16.50 per hour (based on experience)
