About Us:
It Takes a Village Animal Rescue is a dedicated, non-profit organization committed to rescuing and rehoming homeless animals. We provide compassionate care and a second chance at life, while promoting responsible pet ownership and spaying/neutering efforts. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our team as a Community Coordinator to help expand our outreach and community engagement efforts across our three locations: Evansville, IN, Spencer County, and Daviess County, KY.
Position Overview:
The Community Coordinator will be responsible for fostering relationships within the local community, organizing events, promoting the organization's mission and supporting the rescue’s outreach programs. This role will require travel between our three locations, with the goal of strengthening the presence of It Takes a Village Animal Rescue within each community.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for animals, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to connect with a wide range of individuals and organizations. This position requires creativity, enthusiasm, and a commitment to the rescue’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, schools, community groups, and government organizations.
- Develop and execute outreach programs, including adoption events, awareness campaigns, and educational presentations on responsible pet ownership.
- Represent the organization at local fairs, festivals, and community gatherings to promote our mission, programs, and adoptable animals.
Event Planning & Execution
- Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising, adoption, and community outreach events.
- Develop event budgets, timelines, and logistics.
- Secure venues, vendors, and sponsorships for events.
- Engage with the public in-person and via email/phone.
- Handle and control animals, including walking large dogs during events.
Volunteer Management
- Develop and implement strategies for volunteer recruitment and retention.
- Conduct volunteer orientation and training.
- Maintain volunteer database, tracking hours and contact information.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and ensure coverage for events and daily operations.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in community outreach, event planning, public relations or a related field preferred.
- Experience with animal rescue or animal welfare is a plus but not required.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Other:
- Ability to travel regularly between our locations in Evansville, IN, Spencer County, and Daviess County, KY.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for events and outreach.
- A passion for animal welfare and the mission of It Takes a Village Animal Rescue.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time during events.
- Comfort around animals and in varying environments, including outdoor settings.
