Role:
Village Leadership Academy (VLA) seeks a vibrant and passionate Teaching Assistant for our 2nd-grade classroom who values social justice, embraces culturally responsive teaching, and prioritizes student-centered learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Working collaboratively with the lead teacher to establish a positive learning environment for all students;

Ensuring the classroom environment is safe and clean;

Assisting teachers with lesson plan creation and preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment;

Revising lesson materials with students individually or in small groups as needed;

Assessing and evaluating students’ academic progress and maintaining current and accurate student records;

Collaborating with lead teachers to recognize student support needs and recommending solutions;

Attending staff meetings, participating in professional development workshops and training, and engaging in teacher evaluation processes;

Maintaining up-to-date teaching techniques/practices, progress monitoring, and technology to provide students with a quality educational experience;

Support with coordinating school assemblies, planning school-related special events, and supporting school fundraisers;

Assisting with meal service;

Ensuring fairness in teacher-student relationships and promoting student voice and agency;

Participating in after-school enrichment activities, events, and clubs;

Overseeing students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch, and on field excursions;

Documenting student progress and communicating with parents to keep them informed;

Assisting with After School Programming

Salary: $39,141 - $43,403
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.
- A bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant field is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years experience as a teaching assistant or similar role.
- Solid understanding of classroom activities and best practices in teaching.
- Must have a compassionate and positive attitude.
- Must be able to demonstrate the skill and competence necessary to contribute to each child’s physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities.
