Manager, Network Application Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

Provide administrative and technical leadership to a group of multi- skilled engineering professionals to ensure the functionality and accuracy of the Energy Management System (EMS) – Network Application subsystems used for studying, monitoring, analyzing and operating the high voltage electric power grid in both offline and real-time environments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Function as a group lead for network applications and represent the work group in matters related to network applications engineering in the real time and offline transmission system operating environments.
• Solve technical problems by interpreting and evaluating information, uncovering related issues, developing methods or procedures for gathering information, making recommendations and implementing solutions for matters related to Energy Management Systems (EMS) network applications including, but not limited to, Operator Training Simulator, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis and Dispatcher Load Flow.
• Provide expertise and guidance on technical issues to Real Time Operations, Information Technology and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) work groups to ensure system reliability.
• Provide subject matter expertise for projects and committees regarding technical and non-technical matters related to network application engineering.  Participate in industry forums.
• Participate in work group policy development, implement policies and negotiate and resolve issues.
• Manage workflow by scheduling work, providing work direction, setting goals and objectives with regards to functionality and accuracy of network application subsystems.
• Develop and maintain a highly skilled, motivated and team-oriented workforce by participating in the interviewing and hiring of new employees, aiding in employee development, mentoring and coaching, counseling, training, evaluating and recognizing performance.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years, or Master’s Degree with Power Engineering emphasis with a minimum of eight (8) years, of progressively responsible experience as an Operations Engineer or a Planning Engineer including a minimum of two (2) years of experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and network analysis tools- utilization and monitoring (can be acquired concurrently) or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
• Registered Professional Engineer preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years supervisory or leadership experience.
• Thorough understanding of power system and transmission grid operations.
• Advanced knowledge of Energy Management Systems (EMS) computer applications programs including State Estimator, Contingency Analysis and Dispatcher Load Flow used to perform system security analysis in both real-time and study modes. 
• Ability to move frequently between multiple tasks, while prioritizing conflicting priorities.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the Company. 
• Sound analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
