Job Summary:
BuzzClans is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Surgery Scheduler for our client at LifeBridge Health in Baltimore, MD. This role involves the preparation, organization, and coordination of surgery schedules to ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining high standards of patient care. The Surgery Scheduler will work closely with clinical teams to ensure that operating room schedules are accurate and complete, taking into consideration surgeon availability, patient readiness, and equipment needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule Creation & Management:
- Create, review, and adjust daily operating room (OR) schedules using department-specific software.
- Maximize OR utilization and minimize delays by coordinating physician requests, cancellations, emergent cases, and changes to schedules.
- Maintain a waitlist of procedures when needed and distribute updated schedules to relevant departments.
- Ensure clear communication between surgical teams, including anesthesia, nursing staff, and clinical coordinators, to prepare for surgeries.
- Collaboration & Coordination:
- Collaborate with Posting Coordinator to address any changes in scheduling.
- Ensure accurate documentation of surgical procedures and patient details, including appropriate site, levels, and procedure codes.
- Monitor OR availability and maintain operational guidelines for room assignments.
- Patient Interaction & Education:
- Coordinate surgical scheduling with patients, ensuring they understand timing, preparation, and post-operative expectations.
- Provide patients with relevant instructions on pre-admission processes, ancillary services, and scheduling post-operative appointments.
- Continuous Process Improvement:
- Ensure all scheduling processes comply with clinic standards, including the use of Cerner EMR for accurate record-keeping and data management.
Requirements:
- Education: High School Diploma/GED (Associate's degree preferred)
- Experience: 1-2 years of surgical scheduling experience required
- Proficient in scheduling software and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of operating room protocols, procedures, and patient coordination
