Equipment Operator (Chaska, MN)
The Equipment Operator performs a variety of tasks, operating various types of equipment primarily related to the construction of telecommunications and a Fiber-to-the-Home (FttH) Network. This position will operate heavy to light excavation equipment as well as place and bury fiber pathways, including operation of horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment, and product support equipment.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Operates excavation equipment for underground telecommunications cable conduit installation, including fiber optic cable.
Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation
Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
Responsible for avoiding existing cables and digging by blueprints and designated plans.
Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment
Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.
Inspects and fuels vehicles before beginning shift.
Performs routine maintenance and repairs.
Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities
Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on-site.
Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications
Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications
Ensuring sites are kept clean and safe.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one (1) year experience. Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
- On-the-job training offered. Must be available to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit
- Ability to use hands to handle or feet
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to climb and balance
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs as needed
- Ability to maintain all safety expectations

- Exposed to extreme weather conditions
- Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery
- Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
- Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
