What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Technician/Installer position at ITG Communications?
Number of Positions- 3
A Fiber Technician performs in-home fiber as well as Coax installation and maintenance services through a series of tasks involving a range of building types, from large commercial structures and office buildings to private homes. Tasks involve installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables for high-speed data transmission and communication infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Resolve, repair and install fiber optics systems, ensuring that they work properly.
- Splice Coax cable of all sizes .875, .715, .700, .625, .540, .500, as well as .750, .650 and .500mcsq.
- Efficiently and accurately splice span replacements, SDU, SMB, Forced Relocate both aerial and underground.
- Examine and replace faulty and/or old fiber optic cables.
- Rectify fiber optic problem areas.
- Inspect worksite, so that a faulty fiber optic system does not destabilize its performance.
- Keep track of the signal strength of different devices including television, telephone, and high-speed internet.
- Must be able to splice on Active devices, efficiently
- Formulate and maintain system records and system designs.
- Educate customers on services and assist with setting up customer owned devices
Requirements
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with experience in fiber/Coax installation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit
- Ability to use hands to handle or feet
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to climb and balance. Use or ladder required.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
