A Splicer plays a critical role responsible for splicing, installing, maintaining, repairing, roubleshooting and testing to ensure high-quality standards for network performance and reliability. This position requires a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various outdoor environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform splicing tasks in various outdoor settings, including aerial, underground, and building entries.
- Read, interpret, and update network maps, splice schematics, and engineering field notes.
- Use equipment, including fusion splicers, OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers), power meters, and light sources to ensure optimal network performance.
- Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of links to identify and resolve issues such as breaks, bends, or bad splices.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and safety regulations during all operations.
- Coordinate with other team members and departments to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects.
- Provide accurate and detailed documentation of completed work, including splicing and testing results.
- Participate in on-call rotation for emergency repairs and maintenance outside of normal working hours.
- Stay updated on the latest technology and splicing techniques through continuous learning and professional development.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college or technical school coursework in
- Previous experience in splicing, telecommunications, or a similar field is highly desirable
- Basic understanding of telecommunications networks
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit
- Ability to use hands to handle or feet
- Ability to reach with hands and arms
- Ability to climb and balance
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs
- Ability to maintain all safety expectations
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments and conditions, including heights, confined spaces, and inclement weather.
- Works outdoors for extended periods.
