What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Specialist position at Ithaca City School District?
The Pittsford Central School District is looking for a Benefits Specialist to work out of the Central Office. This is a 12 month, 260 day a-year job working Monday through Friday 8am until 4 : 30pm. This position involves direct responsibility for the administration of a benefits program for all eligible employees and retirees. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering health and life insurance, pension plans and other benefits particular to the school district. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a higher level staff member.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES : All need not be done in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed.
- Coordinate benefit programs particular to the district, such as life and health insurance, pension plans, tax deferred annuity
- Support conducting detailed orientation / benefit review with new employees to discuss fringe benefits
- Act as liaison or assist with various benefit agencies and the departments concerning clarification of policies, procedures and plan updates
- Maintain personnel files in connection with the district's fringe benefit and compensation programs
- Counsel retirees on application and processing of retirement benefits
- Process payroll changes in regard to salary increases, payroll deductions, etc
- Compile bills and pay premium charges to insurance carriers as well as direct premium billing to certain classes of employees
- Assure or assist in enforcing claims management procedures are in effect
- Direct premium billing for employees
