Position Description

 

Title: K-6 Licensed Teacher  - Summer Program (Temporary)

Department: Migrant Education Program

Supervised by: Director of Migrant Education or designee

Wage: $40.00 per hour. Per CBA Article 5 Compensation G.1 “Working overtime (beyond 40 hours per week) must be pre-approved by the Department Director or Superintendent.”

Work Year: June 17 - July 18, 2025

 

Position Purpose:

The Elementary Classroom Teacher is hired for the purpose/s of developing students’ academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and implementing Program approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Core Job Functions:

  1. Prepare teaching materials and reports for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of student progress.
  2. Presentation of instructional materials and academic instruction to individuals or small groups of students.
  3. Assist students to improve their success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a Program approved curriculum.
  4. Communicate with students in English and/or Spanish to facilitate instructional processes.
  5. Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students, families, colleagues or district patrons. Use or relay personal information only in the course of performing assigned responsibilities and in the best interest of the individuals involved.
  6. Observe and control behavior of students in and out of the classroom for providing a clean, safe and optimal learning environment.
  7. Observe and communicate students’ performance to provide feedback to students, parents, and the Director regarding student progress.
  8. Perform duties relating to a student’s physical needs.
  9. Perform clerical duties such as filing, typing, and duplicating.
  10. Attends and participates in meetings; collaborates with staff, parents, and community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes.
  11. Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, parents, staff and the public. 

 

Department Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse, etc.) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to district policies.
  2. Participates in meetings and in-service training programs, as assigned.
  3. Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities; is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
  4. Performs other duties as may be assigned by Director of Migrant Education, or Superintendent to support the success of the agency.

Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods. 

  • Promote high levels of achievement in relation to individual student abilities. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and abilities to use research-based principles of effective instruction.  
  • Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes.  
  • Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes. 
  • Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement. 
  • Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly. 
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective student learning. 
  • Develop written rules of classroom behavior and communicate those rules to all students. 
  • Enforce written rules for classroom behavior. 
  • Communicate course goals and academic expectations to students. 
  • Provide for the health and safety of students in all instructional settings. 
  • Prepare effectively for class with daily lesson plans. 
  • Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships− Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy consideration, respect, and cultural awareness and responsibility. − Maintain a cooperative relationship with administration, staff, students and parents. 
  • Provide documentation of students’ progress
  • Maintain appropriate records of student performance. 
  • Build motivation and interest in learning − Exhibit personal interest and encourage student interest in the subject area.
  • Participate in District sponsored inservice offerings appropriate to assignment. 
  • Maintain an attitude of helping in the total school atmosphere. 

 

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS or higher degree (required) with a major in one or more of the following areas: Curriculum, Elementary Education, Reading, Early Childhood Education, or similar
  •  Valid Oregon Teaching License 
  • Must hold a current recognized first aid card or be willing to obtain same if directed by the district under ORS 342.664 (2).
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
  • Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects. 
  • Holds and maintains an appropriate license and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon; and displays a willingness to teach any qualified subject area.

 

Working Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the core functions of this job.  The noise level in the work environment could be low to moderate. The work is a combination of indoors and outdoors. Physical requirements: See; hear; speak; use of hands for single grasping, pushing or pulling and fine motor manipulation; frequently bend, squat, lift, sit and climb stairs; lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; and may be required to run and/or physically restrain a child.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Columbia Gorge ESD Board policy on evaluation.

 

Terms of Employment:

Number of days per year as per program calendar.  Employment will generally take place on days when students are present.
