Summary

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Welder/Fabricator to join our Manufacturing Engineering Team. This role specializes in creating and maintaining custom jigs and fixtures used in the production of refrigerated cabinets. The position focuses on efficiency, safety, and precision, requiring strong expertise building metal structures/fixtures and some expertise in mechanical and pneumatic systems to ensure effective and efficient manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain welding machinery and tools, utilizing various welding techniques including MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to accurately fabricate metal structures and components.
  • Assist in and progressively take on the design and construction of fixtures that hold cabinets during the foaming process, aiming to fully assume these responsibilities as part of a long-term transition into the role.
  • Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, and cleaning, to ensure high-quality joints and finishes.
  • Provide feedback and input on the fabrication process, including order of assembly, design modifications, and material selections.
  • Participate in all phases of metal fabrication, from initial design to final assembly, to progressively master these tasks to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Implement safety procedures and best practices in all welding and fabrication tasks.
  • Initially assist with and gradually learn to independently design and integrate pneumatic components within mechanical jigs, aiming to enhance ergonomics and production efficiency over time.
  • Collaborate with the Foam Jig Team and other departments to ensure fixtures maintain the shape and dimensions of refrigerator cabinets during foam expansion processes.
  • Research, design, and build fixtures/tools/equipment to improve production floor efficiency, safety, quality, and cost.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for developing models and mechanical assemblies is preferred. Training will be provided for those willing to learn.
  • Begin by assisting in and eventually take the lead on writing detailed operational procedures for the tools, fixtures, and machines created, enhancing documentation skills over time.

Education and Work Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Welding certificate required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in various welding techniques and familiar with metal properties and structural design.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn the operation of CNC routing machines and programming.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • In-depth understanding of industry design principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn 2D software (DraftSight) and 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks).
  • Experience or interest in learning about 3D Printing technologies and materials such as PLA, PETG, Onyx, Nylon, Fiberglass, & Carbon Fiber is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and solve problems effectively.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to work mainly on the shop floor in a manufacturing environment.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Welding certificate required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Attend work regularly and report promptly for duty on the days and at the times scheduled by the supervisor.
  • Schedule changes occur and should be handled in a productive manner
  • Working temperatures vary with seasonal changes and where climate control is limited. The environment is one in which noise exists.
  • Work occasionally outdoors in temperatures ranging from hot to cold and exposed to rain and wind
  • Sit on a forklift, stand, walk, squat, climb, or crawl for a combined minimum of eight (8) to (10) hours per day on a concrete surface.
  • Lift and carry components, tools, or other items weighing more than 35 pounds. Any item over 35 pounds is to be done with assistance.
  • May perform a combination of physical movements to reach areas difficult to access including bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, twisting and rotation motions using head/neck, arms, wrists, waist, knees and arms while performing duties.
  • Pull and push up to 100 pounds.
  • Handle small hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. Handling may be done unilaterally (one-handed) or bilaterally (two-handed) depending on size and shape of object and task being performed.
  • Need corrected vision to be aware of surroundings, location of items needed and perform various other job duties.
  • Need corrected hearing to identify conditions in the environment (i.e. forklift horns, fire alarms).
  • Need mental alertness to identify, avoid, or resolve safety hazards.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to work in a welding area with welding screens.
  • Keep the welding area clear of combustibles and flammables.
  • The ability to wear designated personal protective equipment for the work assignment (i.e. welding hood, welding jackets, welding gloves, safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, cut-resistant sleeves, safety shoes).

Work Hours

Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm, overtime required as needed.
