SUMMARY OF JOB:
Responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state and facility standards, guidelines and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Director of Nursing in the day to day functioning of the Nursing Department.
- Assist in reviewing, revising and updating policies and procedures used in the Nursing Department.
- Assist with the scheduling of nurses and nursing assistants.
- Moderate weekly Resident Care Conferences.
- Conduct regularly scheduled Nursing Assistant Committee meetings to improve communications and resolve problems.
- Monitor and evaluate performances of shift supervisors and head nurses.
- Make rounds on residents to insure that they are receiving care in accordance with the Ivy Hill standards.
- Assist in disciplining departmental personnel in accordance with Ivy Hill policy.
- Greet newly admitted residents and family members.
- Review nurses’ notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of resident’s condition and care.
- Monitor use of physical and chemical restraints in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor quality of care utilizing monthly audits.
- Keep current in Nursing Practice by attending classes, seminars and workshops.
- Attend and participate in Nursing Administration meetings.
- Cover weekends, holidays and other times as needed on a rotating basis with other Nursing Administration staff.
- Take call responsibility for the Nursing Department on rotating basis with Director of Nursing and Staff Development Coordinator.
- Assume responsibility of Director of Nursing in his/her absence.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing, as appropriate to the position of Assistant Director of Nursing.
- Adhere to the Organization’s Policies and Procedures covering Privacy and Security in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Complete annual compliance and HIPAA training and exhibit behavior as set forth by the Code of Compliance in the performance of their duties.
- Adheres to the Organizations Policies and Procedures regarding the Compliance Program of the organization and is timely in reporting any possible concerns.
- Follows all local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to their position.
Position Highlights
Oversee the nursing centers' Infection Control and Prevention Program to minimize the risk of infection.
Manage the employee health program which includes the universal influenza program.
Facilitate infection control training for all newly hired employees and conduct annual competency training for nurses administering tuberculosis testing.
Review the immunization documentation/status for all new hires with the center to ensure compliance
Develop education programs in response infection control needs identified through Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement, rounding and center quality measures
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Valid PA RN License
- 2-5 years of nurse leadership experience preferred
- Knowledge of current nursing practices
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations in Long Term Care.
- Completion of the CDC Infection Preventionist Online Course.
- Working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid
- Computer skills
