Secondary Science Teacher - Grades 5-8
Position Requirements:
- Degree in Science and/or Education.
- Prepare 8th grade students for the Living Environment Regents examination in June.
- Knowledgeable in NYS labs requirements and execution.
- Demonstrated expertise in subject area or grade level, as evidenced by personal skills and knowledge, a relevant undergraduate major or minor or graduate degree or direct subject area or grade-level teaching experience.
- Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility and demonstrated ability to engage the interest of pre-school or K-8 students.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse children, including those with special needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate tests and measurements of achievement; and
Reports to and is evaluated by:
- Principal
Description of Duties:
- Assist with the develop of lesson plans that exceed common core learning standards and meet the  learning standards set forth by Ivy League;
- Provide direct and indirect instruction;
- Evaluate students progress;
- Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management;
- Ensure that the school's academic standards are rigorous, clear, and measurable
Learning Standards:
- Develop curriculum and activities that are rigorous and academically stimulating;
- Develop assessments that measure progress towards Ivy League's academic standards;
- Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students;
- Follow the school's policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline and refuse to tolerate classroom disruptions;
- Develop and use a variety of assessments (e.g., exams, written work, public performances) that frequently measure student progress toward the school's content and skill standards;
- Develop clear evaluation criteria and distribute to students prior to assignments;
- Use assessment data to refine curriculum and instructional practices;
- Respond to parent concerns promptly and effectively;
- Participate effectively and collegially in department meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings;
- Share responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities.
