The Director of First Year Initiatives (FYI) is an exciting new position responsible for overseeing and developing a comprehensive strategy to support and guide incoming first-year students through their transition to college life. This position will design and implement activities and programs focused on promoting the academic success and retention of first-year students and to support activities and programs designed to improve student persistence. The Director of First-Year Initiatives will be directly responsible for moving the South Bend-Elkhart campus toward meeting retention and completion metrics, which measure student success.

Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, adult or higher education, or related discipline is required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning and Leadership:
Develop and implement a strategic vision for the First Year Experience (FYE) program, aligning with the university's overall goals and student success initiatives.
Lead a team of FYI staff including Assistant Director of Outreach, Student Mentor Coordinator and Student Mentors), including to effectively execute the FYI program.
Collaborate with key stakeholders across campus including academic departments, academic advising, student life, and Enrollment to coordinate FYE activities.
Work closely with the Dean of Advising and Enrollment and the Deans of the Colleges to advance college priorities for improved student persistence and a transformative first-year experience.
Program Development and Implementation:
Design and oversee a comprehensive FYE curriculum including orientation, academic workshops, and wellness programs.
Develop and manage FYE budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of FYE initiatives, making data-driven adjustments as needed.
Coordinate the activities of the First-Year Experience task force.
Student Support and Engagement:
Provide direct support to first-year students facing academic or personal challenges, connecting them with appropriate resources.
Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all first-year students through targeted programming and initiatives.
Cultivate a strong community among first-year students through peer mentorship and social engagement opportunities.

Bolster first-year students' retention and success to be measured by meeting fall to fall and fall to spring college metrics.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Track and analyze student data related to academic performance, retention, and student engagement to identify trends, implement interventions, and inform program improvements.
Prepare reports for university leadership regarding the impact of FYE programs on student success.
External Relations and Partnerships:
Collaborate with external organizations and community partners to enhance the FYE experience for students.
Represent the university at conferences and events related to first-year student transition and success.

Compensation: $59,500
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, adult or higher education, or related discipline is required.
Three to five years of progressive leadership experience in a supporting student (college or high school).
Experience working in TRIO, GearUP, First Year Experience Programs. etc.
Demonstrated project management skills to oversee several projects concurrently and meet deadlines effectively.
Knowledge of managing student-related data and reporting.
Must be adept at resolving individual and group conflicts.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Official Academic Transcripts Required at time of hire sent directly from issuing instruction to the Office of Human Resources.
