What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Tutor position at Ivy Tech Community College?
The tutor’s duties include tutoring assistance to students in the areas of writing, math, science and computer technology courses as needed. This includes utilizing face-to-face individual tutoring, small group tutoring, and virtual tutoring by Zoom. The tutor works a flexible schedule balanced between the coverage needs of the tutoring centers and the tutor’s availability. Tutoring is within the Library Services department with reporting to the Tutoring Coordinator.
Major Responsibilities:
- Tutor students in a variety of methods based upon students’ different learning styles
- Provides tutoring in Ivy Tech courses with concentration in subjects specific to qualifications
- Explains concepts and asks questions that encourage students to think and work independently
- Assists prospective students in setting up for Knowledge Assessment placement tests
- Guides students in the development of positive study habits and study skills
- Assists students with printing and computer software
- Works productively with students and staff with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Maintains documentation of tutoring sessions via sign-ins and the tutoring software – TracCloud
- Helps to provide tutoring schedules to classes and promote tutoring to the faculty, staff, and students
- Develops a good understanding and knowledge of college services and other campus resources useful to a student’s academic success
- Participates in professional development training as relevant
- Assists Tutoring Coordinator and Library Director as needed in other tasks related to the smooth operations of the Tutoring Centers
Other duties may logically be assigned by supervisor.
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
Schedule: 12-16 hours per week, schedule is based on student needs and candidate availability.
Education, Experience And Other Requirements
- Equivalent credit hours to an Associates Degree
- Demonstrated expertise in the subject areas the tutor is strong in, and broader general subjects
- Computer literacy and knowledge in Microsoft Office Products, use of Zoom and Teams
- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students being tutored, tutoring team, supervisors, other staff and faculty.
- Possesses a strong level of responsibility, reliability, punctuality and initiative.
