What are the responsibilities and job description for the WorkStudy, Federal- Automotive Lab Technician Assistant position at Ivy Tech Community College?
The Automotive Lab Technician Assistant will assist the Automotive Lab Technician and instructors with repairing brakes and steering systems components.
General Qualifications:
• Completed FAFSA on file demonstrating financial need. • High School Diploma or G.E.D. • Be able to communicate well orally and work well with diverse student populations • Maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours of enrollment in eligible courses • Maintain an aid-eligible Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status • Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater. • Projects positive image for Ivy Tech Community College. • Display a professional appearance and demeanor. • Must be dependable, responsible and organized. • Must work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors. • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). • Must be able to practice confidentiality in all aspects of work. • Must have excellent customer service skills. • Confidentiality must be maintained and followed along with FERPA regulations. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems. • Replace or repair transmissions and fuel components as needed. • Repair cooling components and systems including air conditioners and engine cooling. Perform emissions inspections, safety checks and similar state-regulated vehicle examinations. • Maintain a clean, safe working environment. • Produce legible and accurate paperwork reflecting work performed. • A valid state driver’s license is required for conducting test drives. • Perform basic auto care and maintenance tasks such as oil changes, fluid level checks, and tire rotation. • Perform routine maintenance and general mechanic work on vehicles. • Identify problems with vehicles using the diagnostic equipment. • Explain automotive repairs and issues and provide help to student. • Help plan repair procedures using charts, manuals, and OEM factory websites such as; Alldata, Shopkeypro and Identifix. • Test the functionality of parts and systems. • Assist with inventory, orders and updates of equipment as needed. • Willingness to learn with hands-on training.
