Laboratory Assistant September 7, 2021

Perform specific responsibilities assigned by the lab manager.
Laboratory Assistant shall:

  • Uphold the policies and procedures of the organization, including but not limited to confidentiality of patients and business operations
  • Represent the practice in a professional and ethical manner
  • Communicate and complaints, grievances, or potential violations of state and federal law to the appropriate chain of command personnel.
  • This Lab Assistant performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the laboratory running smoothly. The duties of Lab Assistant will vary.

Daily

  • Calibration sample preparation and Internal Standard preparation.
  • Assist with patient test ordering and receiving of requested testing.
  • Release stored orders from LIS.
  • Discard old urine cups appropriately.
  • When working in specimen preparation: Prepare samples for patient testing as

  • Prepare specimen aliquots as needed and label as required.
  • Prepare samples for testing as required by the method.
  • Prepare daily load list(s) for LCMS.
  • Check inventory as assigned for adequate supplies.
  • Place supply orders as assigned when needed.
  • Ensure supply expiration dates are within expiration. Remove and order more if needed. Enter newly received supplies into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Receive supply shipments, document receipt in lab order book and check off packing slip. Provide packing slip to accounting.
  • File 'Daily specimen transportation log sheet' in the appropriate folder.
  • Document 'Daily Temperature Log sheet' and Nitrogen generator readings.
  • Check supply inventory, reagents, calibrators, QC materials, order if needed.
  • Issues such as specimen spilled (prepare a fax sheet hand over to compliance officer/assistant, document on Logbook) or notify appropriate authority or act according to approved protocols.
  • Discard organic waste onto appropriate liquid hazardous waste container.
  • Complete the 'Daily Specimen Count Sheet' every day.
  • Clean and disinfect counter tops with antibacterial wipes at the end of the shift.
  • Take out the trash and clean lab when needed.
  • Check reagent calibrators and controls have received. open and expiration dates documented on vial.

Weekly

  • Perform specific responsibilities assigned by the lab manager.
  • Check supply order log book to ensure supplies are received timely. Notify laboratory manager if supply is untimely.

As Required

Annually ensure thermometers, timers and pipettes are calibrated. Complete_ competencies annually as required.

Review policy and procedures annually and, when revision becomes effective.

Sample preparation and processing as directed by laboratory manager.

  • High school graduate, BS degree preferred.
  • More than one year experience in laboratory
  • Clear background check and drug screen
  • Eighteen (18) years or older
  • Able to read and write consistent with job requirements; cognitive skills as related to the position
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • Laboratory experience: 1 year (Required)
  • Laboratory techniques: 1 year (Required)
  • Specimen collection / processing: 1 year (Required)

Ability to Relocate:

  • Calico Rock, AR 72519: Relocate before starting work (Required)
