A Landscape Maintenance Crew Leader is responsible for supervising a team of groundskeepers, overseeing daily landscape maintenance tasks like mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, and debris removal, ensuring the quality of work meets company standards, managing equipment, assigning tasks, and maintaining safety protocols across assigned properties, while also actively participating in hands-on groundskeeping duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Crew Management:
- Lead and direct a team of groundskeeping staff, assigning tasks based on skills and property needs.
- Train new crew members on techniques for grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and safety procedures per company standard operating procedures.
- Monitor crew performance according to their job description, provide feedback, and address any issues with work quality by redirecting workers to meet written standards of performance.
- Ensure adherence to established work schedules and deadlines.
- Ensure efficient use of time and resources on each project.
Grounds Maintenance:
- Perform a variety of landscaping tasks, including mowing, edging, trimming shrubs, weeding, planting flowers, removing debris, aerating, and overseeding.
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment like mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, and power tools per manufacturer specifications and company policy and procedures.
- Inspect grounds for potential issues like pest infestations, disease, or damaged plants and report to account manager and/or take necessary corrective actions.
Site Management:
- Conduct weekly site inspections to identify additional maintenance needs and prioritize tasks according to the maintenance service agreements and service timelines.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, including timesheets, materials used, and client details.
- Coordinate with clients and/or account managers to address concerns and ensure satisfaction with maintenance services according to the service agreement.
Quality Control:
- Inspect work completed during each weekly site visit to ensure compliance with quality standards outlined in the checklist, and provide your signature stating that the work has met those standards.
- Identify and address any issues or defects prior to leaving the job.
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite, truck and trailer.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce all safety regulations and procedures on and off the job site.
- Conduct pre-shift safety meetings with the crew.
- Properly operate and maintain all landscaping equipment and perform pre-trip/safety inspections daily before leaving the shop each morning.
- Report any safety concerns or accidents to the account manager and or mechanic immediately. Complete and submit all necessary incident reports.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate timekeeping and project documentation.
- Prepare daily work reports and submit to supervisors.
- Track project costs and ensure adherence to budget.
- Address customer concerns and resolve any issues that arise.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of two years experience as a landscape grounds maintenance crew leader and four years overall landscape grounds maintenance experience.
- Knowledge:
- Proficient understanding of plant identification, proper pruning techniques, lawn care practices, and equipment operation.
- Equipment Operation:
- Proficiency in operating various groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, core aerators, and power tools, and proficient ability to operate and maneuver a truck and trailer.
- Leadership Skills:
- Ability to motivate and manage a team, delegate tasks effectively, and provide clear instructions.
- Communication Skills:
- Proficient verbal and written communication to interact with clients, crew members, and supervisors.
- Physical Ability:
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
- Problem-solving skills:
- proficient ability to identify and resolve issues on and off the job site efficiently.
- Valid driver's license:
- Required to operate company vehicles to transport crew members and materials.
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.32 - $22.00 per hour
