What are the responsibilities and job description for the Virtual Design Construction Technician position at J.F. Brennan Company Inc.?
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Technician to join our team. This entry-level position supports VDC activities under the guidance of VDC Engineers. The VDC Technician will focus on generating 3D models, elements, and components using software such as Revit and 3Ds Max to support project-specific model applications. This is an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in marine and heavy civil construction as it applies to 3D modeling and virtual design.
VDC Technician Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with VDC Engineers to create deliverables for project-specific model uses.
- Develop 3D models from sources such as engineer-issued drawings, existing models, or project team-provided drawings.
- Convert verbal and written information into accurate 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Create 2D drawings for installation or fabrication within the shop.
- Convert file types as needed for internal project use.
- Generate reports from 3D authoring software, including bills of materials, quantity takeoffs, clash reports, and earthwork designs.
- Assist in resolving BIM and VDC-related issues for project teams.
- Maintain electronic file structure and upload 3D models, components, and elements into Autodesk Vault.
- Ensure all deliverables are provided to the required level of detail for VDC projects.
- Follow internal VDC folder structures and meet key performance indicators (KPIs) for internal and external data exchanges.
- Other duties as assigned.
VDC Technician Qualifications:
- Technical, Associate, or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
- 0-5 years of experience using 3D authoring software, with a preference for Autodesk products such as Revit and 3Ds Max.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, Navisworks, Inventor, Infraworks, or similar tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with interpreting construction drawing sets, 3D/BIM models, and survey or hydrographic data.
- Strong problem-solving and technical analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with project teams, including project managers, superintendents, estimators, engineers, and clients.
- Willingness to learn and master the complete Autodesk suite.
